Independent Speyside distillery, The GlenAllachie, has today, Thursday 31 July, unveiled the first-ever single cask additions to its Meikle Tòir range of peated single malts – a distillery exclusive 2018 Pedro Ximénez Sherry Hogshead and an online exclusive 2019 Oloroso Sherry Hogshead.
These exquisite single casks were hand-selected by legendary whisky craftsman and Master Distiller Billy Walker for their exceptional nature. Bottled at cask strength, they capture the boldness of the distillery’s signature mainland peated spirit, enhanced by the richness of meticulous sherry cask maturation.
Available only at The GlenAllachie Distillery, the 2018 Pedro Ximénez Sherry Hogshead is Meikle Tòirs’ inaugural distillery-exclusive single-cask release. Matured in a first-fill Pedro Ximénez Sherry cask for seven years, it reveals layers of fig jam, toasted hazelnuts, and honeyed spice, unfolding into warm citrus sweetness with notes of chocolate and marzipan.

The 2019 Oloroso Sherry Hogshead is available directly from The GlenAllachie Distillery’s online shop, delivering bold, smoky intensity layered with rich complexity. Aged for six years in an Oloroso Sherry cask, it balances sweetness with spice, revealing soft tobacco, figs and orange on the nose, followed by mocha, grilled honeycomb and smoked fruits on the palate.

Billy Walker, Master Distiller at The GlenAllachie Distillery, said:
“When selecting our first Meikle Tòir single casks, I was looking for whiskies that truly captured the bold, smoky character that defines the range, with added depth and complexity from exceptional sherry cask maturation.
“These two casks stood out to me straight away. Both are a real reflection of the signature peated style we’ve been evolving at the distillery: full of robust sherry character, yet still true to sweet and smoky mainland spirit of Meikle Tòir.
“We have bottled them at natural strength, so what you’re tasting is as close as it gets to sampling straight from the cask. No fuss – just great, honest whisky.”
Produced using mainland peat sourced from St Fergus, which offers a sweeter and more oaky smoke profile than contrasting Islay peat, both expressions non-chill filtered with natural, cask-imparted colour. A lengthy fermentation time of 160 hours, around three times the industry norm, gives the spirit extra depth, encouraging bold, complex flavours with a fruity profile.
Priced at £75.99 and with only 355 and 357 bottles available respectively, the 2018 Pedro Ximénez Sherry Hogshead is bottled at 59.9% ABV with a peat level of 44PPM while the 2019 Oloroso Hogshead is bottled at 60.5% ABV with a peat level of 47PPM.
These inaugural single cask releases are a pivotal moment in the development of The GlenAllachie’s Meikle Tòir offering, with plans to release further single cask bottlings across select international markets.
